In other words Privacy policy is a statement or often a legal document
which the publisher provides to its users clarifying them the way the
company/brand will use their personal information and identity which the
users have provided to them. The users must agree to this statement before providing any confidential information about themselves. Likewise the company cannot/must not make any other usage of the information that they retrieve from their users other than that stated in the policy.
In most of the website that you visit you will see a privacy policy.
Blogs in general do not have any sort of privacy policy. Even though it
is not compulsory for blogs but it gives an assurance of security to the privacy of the users.
These are few points a Privacy Policy Statement should contain:
- Respecting User Privacy: In short tell the user how you respect their privacy policy and take steps to ensure that their critical information is not misused.
- Cookies: If your blog / website uses and stores cookies on users PC, disclose this up front.
- Tracking Location/ Data Collection: Make a small note on what information is collected by which tracking software and disclose that you will not share the information.
- Credit Card Info: Tell the user whether or not you accept credit card details from the user as part of providing a service to them.
- External Sites: Make it clear that you are not to be held responsible for any content in the external site and the policy is meant only for your domain/subdomain.
